About Clarity

Senior expertise.
No long-term commitment.

Clarity Research Administration Consulting was founded on a simple observation: many research institutions lack the in-house expertise to manage complex award portfolios, navigate federal audits, or train staff effectively — yet they cannot always justify a full-time senior hire.

Clarity fills that gap. Every engagement is scoped as a defined project with a clear timeline, concrete deliverables, and a fixed fee — so you know exactly what you are getting and when.

With eighteen years of hands-on experience across every level of research administration — from post-award accounting through department director — Clarity brings practitioner depth to every project.

"To deliver confidence, compliance, and clarity to research-driven organizations through expert post-award administration and staff development — one well-defined project at a time."

Founder & Principal Consultant

Jamie Szabo brings eighteen years of progressively senior research administration experience at major research universities to every Clarity engagement. Her career spans the full arc of the research enterprise — from post-award accounting and compliance through department-level directorship overseeing a $20M extramural portfolio across 40–50 faculty investigators.

Jamie spent twenty years at the University of Missouri, serving in roles including Senior Accountant, Senior Compliance Manager, Associate Director of Sponsored Programs Administration, Director of Research Analytics, and Director of Research Operations and Planning for the Department of Medicine — where she led pre-award, post-award, laboratory, and clinical trials operations and managed a team of five.

She currently serves as a Senior Research Administrator at a University of California research institute, managing a $40M+ portfolio of NIH grants, CIRM awards, and other complex mechanisms — including NIH U24 cooperative agreements and multi-institutional awards — for a nationally recognized genomics research unit.

How It Works

Every engagement is
a defined project.

No open-ended retainers. No billing surprises. You know the scope, timeline, and fee before work begins.

01
Discovery Call
A brief conversation to understand your situation, priorities, and what a successful project looks like for your institution.
02
Project Scoping
A written proposal defining deliverables, timeline, and total project fee — agreed upon before any work begins.
03
Signed Agreement
A formal Project Agreement covering scope, confidentiality, payment terms, and work product ownership.
04
Project Kickoff
Scope confirmation, timeline, key contacts, and first deliverable targets — within five days of signing.
05
Weekly Updates
Brief written status notes every Friday — work completed, upcoming tasks, any issues surfaced early.
06
Final Delivery
Deliverables reviewed, feedback incorporated, and a written project closeout summary provided with a 30-day follow-up.

All engagements begin with a signed Project Agreement. Scope changes require a written amendment before additional work begins. Your budget is protected from the first conversation.
